9 Home Cleaning Tasks You Will Regret Not Doing

You just finished cleaning your home; but are you sure you’ve covered every nook and cranny?

Cleaning is a tedious task, and very few would willingly do it, given a choice. This why, sometimes, many vital areas get neglected during a home cleaning routine.

Overlooking a cleaning task can actually lead to more dirt, germ and grime buildup that you aren’t even aware of. If you can’t afford to bother yourself with thorough cleaning due to your busy schedule, there’s always a home cleaning service that can efficiently do the job.

But if you insist on doing the cleaning yourself, make sure not to miss the following cleaning tasks so that you don’t have regrets later:

1. Clean under the bed

If you’re familiar with the famous monster under the bed, that’s probably your clutter talking. Just because it’s out of sight, doesn’t mean cleaning under the bed should be out of your mind. Clutter means dust buildup, and this can actually entice dust mites and cause respiratory problems.

It’s worth making an extra effort in cleaning your bed from time to time. This way, you can breathe and sleep easy knowing that you’re not snoozing above a pile of dirt.

2. Disinfect door handles

Can you count how many times people have touched your door handles? Although you may be able to guarantee the cleanliness of your hands, you can’t vouch for everyone else’s. Make sure to disinfect door handles regularly to stop the spread of germs.

3. Dust off light fixtures

As you’re not always looking up, you may not see all the dust collected on top of your light fixtures. Dust buildup can actually affect your lighting fixtures, and make them appear dimmer than they actually are. Use an extendable feather duster to keep your bulbs shining brightly.

Also, make sure to clean your light fixtures before anything else, or the dust will come falling down your polished shelves and furnishings.

4. Deep clean trash bins

Even if you use bin bags, spillage can still occur. By not removing the sticky grime, you’ll encourage flies carrying hundreds of different species of bacteria to gather around.

So regularly subject your trash bins to some deep cleaning inside and out, and use hot water to disinfect them.

5. Wipe down remote controls

Love to nibble on snacks while watching your favorite TV show?

You may not be aware of it, but some of the sticky food you eat ends up on your remote control. Give your remote control a good clean by wiping it down regularly with a disinfectant and using a Q-tip for sections in between buttons.

6. Soak dish cloths or sponges

The sponges or cloths you use in the kitchen are actually the dirtiest items in your home.

However, you don’t have to worry as they can be easily sanitized by soaking them in boiling water and disinfectant. This will kill all the germs and ensure that none gets to the food you prepare in the kitchen.

Depending on how much you use your dish cloths or sponges, you should replace them once every two weeks.

7. Wash throw pillows

Throw pillows may only be used for decoration, but they still collect dead skin and other types of dirt as you lay your head or lean on them when you sit on the couch.

Make sure to wash throw pillows regularly to keep them clean and smelling fresh.

8. Clean under the oven

All those crumbs from the tasty cakes and pastries you bake can end up underneath your oven. The opening below actually attracts dirt, and it’s quite easy to leave crumbs there while you rush to do the rest of your cooking.

When you sweep and mop the floor, make sure to not forget the section under your oven as food particles can lure roaches, ants and mice.

9. Wash away dust from houseplants

If you have indoor plants, you shouldn’t neglect cleaning off the dust that accumulates on their leaves. This brings out their freshness and keeps them healthy.

Pop your indoor plants under the shower or hose them with water outside for a minute to wash away dust particles.

Since your garden is the first thing your guests will see when they enter your property, you should also take care of your outdoor plants. Make sure to undertake regular lawn care to maintain the beauty of your garden.

Cleaning can’t be considered thorough and efficient when dirt and grime are still lurking in hidden corners. Remember, nothing beats deep cleaning as it not only ensures your home is tidy but also protects you and your family’s health.
